Best ways to treat dry skin in winter

I love winter when the cold, breezy air hits the body, and I hide under the blanket, feeling the warmth of the cover over me. Hot tea on the bed with munching snacks elevates the joy of the winter season. But there is also one thing that I hate most about winter, and that is itchy, dry skin in winter. It irritates me the most because I keep scratching it until it becomes red and starts peeling off like an onion.

After much research and watching many expert videos, I finally found an effective skincare routine that I am going to share here. If you are also wondering how to protect your skin from dryness and tightness, then let’s discuss it!

Why skin dry in winter?

Dry skin in winter is as normal as sweat in summer. But extra love and care for your skin can prevent it from getting tight and dry. Following some rules, you can avoid the frustration of wondering “why skin dry in winter” or the reasons behind the “dryness of skin in winter”.

The reason our skin gets so dry in winter is due to the cold weather which causes the skin to lose its natural oils. When the outer layer (stratum corneum) is dry, water escapes and causes dehydration in the skin as it acts as a barrier to retain water. This is why your skin feels dry, tight, and irritated during the colder months.

To keep your skin from getting dry in winter, making some changes in your daily life routine can make a big difference. Here’s how you can prevent dry skin in winter at home:

1. Use a creamy face wash or cleanser

Look for products with gentle, moisturizing ingredients that contain creamy ingredients like milk. It keeps the skin smooth and supple.

2. Stay hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated is important in all seasons but it is an especially crucial step to follow in winter. Proper hydration helps keep your skin moisturized and prevents it from drying out. Know more about the Importance of drinking water from Silk Soft Blogs.

3. Limit hot showers

Reduce shower time and use lukewarm water instead of hot water to avoid the damage it causes to our skin and the skin layers.

4. Moisturize regularly

Apply a good moisturizer to your face and body to lock in moisture. Don’t forget your lips—use a lip balm to keep them soft and hydrated.

5. Avoid harsh scrubbing

Also, do not scrub your skin too harshly; doing so will dry the skin and make it flaky.

6. Protect your skin

When you’re outside, protect your skin from the cold by wearing gloves, scarves, and hats. The cold wind can make your skin dry and irritated.

7. Use a humidifier

Indoor heating can make the air dry, which also affects your skin. Using a humidifier in your home can help add moisture to the air and keep your skin from drying out.

Including these things in your routine during winter can surely prevent your skin from getting dry, however, if your skin is sensitive and reacts immediately to environmental conditions then there are winter skin care products for dry skin available in markets that will help you repair your skin and keep it moisturized. You can find moisturizers, cleansers, and toners designed for winter conditions that can help repair and protect your skin. For Example, the Rejuveskin face sheet mask for brightening skin is available for sale and rejuvenates your skin into glowing, hydrated skin for long hours.

Transitions you need for glowing skin

Skin glow is also reduced during winter, and it becomes dull. To restore the glow and youth of the skin, the best remedy is following the winter skincare routine for glowing skin. This routine is very simple to adopt. It just comes with some transitions like eating food rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Avoid baked food, sucrose, fat, and alcoholic products. Go for natural substitutes of food ingredients like sugar, wheat flour (Maida), etc. Instead, have jaggery, mixed grain flour, etc. Dry skin in winter can be kept healthy without wasting heavy money on them and following a complicated, strict diet and skincare routine.
